On March 30 Dan Brown became the CEO of Ondema. Dan has been leading our Go-To-Market efforts and operations since co-founding the company, and his appointment reflects our commitment to our existing customers and the importance of expanding our customer base as we build out the Ondema platform in 2021 and 2022.
Dan has been driving Ondema’s Sales, Operations, and Customer Success efforts since day one. I’m tempted to describe him as a consummate player-coach in the midfield, but of course in entrepreneurship we’re all playing Calvinball. Just as rules are only used once, our positions are constantly evolving. The only constant is Dan’s unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes to move Ondema forward, helping the entire company stay focused on the next step while creating the resources necessary to succeed. Acknowledging the centrality of his role driving our operations by appointing him CEO helps us to share beyond the company what has been obvious for a long time: the entire company has been lifted by his vision, consistent leadership, and contagious work ethic.
One of the reasons we’re most excited about Software-as-a-Service is that success requires listening to our customers. In order to help them deploy software and cloud technology to meet their diverse needs, perhaps the most important skill is out-listening the competition. The company strives to follow Dan’s lead in listening first, and keeping it short when we talk so that we can quickly listen again. No matter how good we are at deploying technology, our software will only be as good as we are at listening to our customers. Dan’s appointment reaffirms that he leads the company in listening to our customers and bringing back their voices to the product development and support teams.
Dan is our CEO because he reminds us every day to think mission first, team always. Dan likes to joke that as a former US Marine he thrives on direct and sometimes forceful communication. We celebrate his ability to speak his mind. More than that, we are keenly aware of his focus, of the sharp leader who always eats last, and of the generous colleague who quickly reminds us that each API we deploy for a customer serves the underlying mission.
We’re thrilled that Dan has agreed to his new role, and we hope that you’ll join Pedro and the rest of the team in congratulating him and telling him to get to work!
